See · Say · Do · Play: How Preschoolers Learn Best in Dance

Welcome to our magical world of preschool dance—where learning meets laughter!

At our preschool classes, our goal is simple: to create an age appropriate and enriched environment where every child can thrive. Children learn in different ways, so we build our classes to engage all the senses. By offering a multi-sensory experience, we make sure every dancer is supported—whether they learn best by watching, listening, moving, or touching.

Research shows that when children engage in a variety of sensory experiences, their brains build stronger connections. As Anne Green Gilbert (2019) explains in Brain-Compatible Dance Education:

“Neurons that fire together, wire together, creating stronger connections in the brain.”

This is why our teaching is rooted in the See · Say · Do · Play approach:

👀 SEE — Children see the class concept through visuals or props, supporting our visual learners.

👂 SAY — We clearly say the class objective out loud, giving our auditory learners clarity.

💪 DO — Dancers get up and move their bodies, bringing the concept to life for kinaesthetic learners.

🖐️ PLAY — Props and tactile experiences invite children to play, explore, and connect with the objective in a hands-on way.

By layering these approaches, every dancer has multiple pathways to learn, grow, and—most importantly—have fun! This also helps ensures every child feels seen, heard, and encouraged to explore—building confidence and creativity from the very first step!

This is what makes preschool dance such a powerful foundation for learning—children aren’t just learning steps, they’re strengthening their brains while discovering the joy of movement.
